From the young age of six to seven years old, I've been captivated by birding, wildlife watching, and ecology. The defining moment that sparked this childhood interest was observing nesting Cooper's Hawks outside the apartment where I grew up in Sunnyvale, California. An annual occurrence I would watch them feed and raise their young. This important event inspired me to begin wildlife photography in 2009. Some of my favorite subjects include raptors, hummingbirds, woodpeckers, bobcats, foxes, and more.

All my images are of wild, native animals engaging in natural behaviors. I never use flash to photograph nocturnal species, never use bait for predatory birds, and never use bird calls or playback. I rely on patience, careful planning, dull clothing, and shooting from a vehicle to get close shots without causing disturbance to subjects.
I hope to continue to pursue wildlife photography throughout my lifetime, and look forward to learning throughout the process while also showcasing, educating, and inspiring others about wildlife behavior and making lasting friendships and connections along the way. It is my pleasure to share my work with others. If you view my photos on flickr, and are interested in them, feel free to leave a comment, or add me as a contact on flickr.

Outside of photography, my educational background of a B.S. in Wildlife, Fish and Conservation Biology from UC Davis and career as an Environmental Analyst with Contra Costa County Public Works Department closely align with my ecology-oriented interests.

Shravan Sundaram's male Allen's Hummingbird, photographed in at the UC Santa Cruz Arboretum, was selected as the California Wildlife Photo of the Year contest winner for 2022. Shravan is the only two-time Photo of the Year winner. His photo of a bobcat kitten took top honors in 2017.
